About Montessori

IMG_1932Maria Montessori was both a well educated and passionate lady; she was the first ever woman in Italy to receive a medical degree. She went on to work with young children and observe the way that they learn independently.

The Montessori method of teaching is a child-centered approach, with children being given the autonomy to explore, and be inspired by their surroundings. Children are encouraged to physically engage with their immediate environment, often with tactile activities that relate to color and shape.

Montessori students get higher grades in Language, Math and Science, and are better at using their time independently and efficiently.

Some famous Montessorians include:

  • Larry Page and Sergey Brin – founders of Google
  • Jeff Bezos – founder of Amazon.com
  • Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis – former first lady (John F. Kennedy)
  • Sean ‘P.Diddy’ Combs – singer
  • Prince William and Prince Harry
  • Anne Frank – author, diarist from World War II
  • Gabriel Garcia Marquez – Nobel Prize winner for Literature

Our classroom

With 3 completely glass walls, it could be said that our classroom gets plenty of daylight (so much that we have to partially close the blinds or it gets too hot!) We believe that natural light is one of the most important parts of having a happy and successful day at school. As with all Montessori schools, all of our equipment is arranged strategically around the room so that the students can access it without having to ask teachers where it is. The room is also full of both English and Chinese books.

Animal, vegetable, mineral!

A fully fledged Montessori school should have all of the necessary resources in order to keep students inspired. In our classroom we have a variety of plants, rocks and gemstones, as well as chameleons, turtles, fish and frogs as real life reference material. Students also conduct plenty of experiments in order to better understand the world around them.

Outings

Whether it’s Taipei Astrological Museum, a water park or an Art exhibition, we have an outing once a month. We also have a summer camping trip and find time to visit a park as often as possible.
